Frequently Asked Questions

What are Sunday Mornings Like?

People come to church for many reasons; whatever your reasons we hope you'll know we're glad you are here and want to help you find what you're looking for.

You'll be welcomed as you come into our buildings. There is nursery and Kids' Church for children and Adult Education for grown ups; for a list of adult classes click here. At our Mill Run and Lytham Road campuses we're likely to have more than one service happening at the same time.

What are your services like?

Our worship services use various styles of music to sing our faith. Click here for a map to our campuses.
  • Lytham Road Celebration and Mill Run Sanctuary services are led by a praise team, we sing contemporary praise songs, and use elements of Lutheran liturgy.
  • In the Lytham Road Sanctuary are Traditional services led by the organ and choir with hymns and Lutheran liturgy.
  • The Fellowship Hall Xalt services at Lytham Road and Mill Run are casual, use a variety of media, and are accompanied by a band.
  • Our Hilltop campus has a smaller, racially mixed and culturally diverse congregation. We have an enthusiastic time of greeting each other during the service.
You are welcome at any of our services. All are creative, Bible-based and God-focused. Try them out – find the one that will help you give glory to God.

Will I have to give money?

No, don't feel uncomfortable or see money as an obstacle to coming and hearing about God. We do take an offering during services; it's an opportunity for our regular attenders and members to worship God through giving. There are no expectations for you to participate so please do not feel obligated to give. We're just excited to have you be our guest!

Will you draw attention to me or make me stand up?

No way. We offer you as much anonymity as you desire so you can evaluate whether or not UALC is a place you want to settle down. We hope you'll take the initiative and let us know you were our guest by filling out the fold-out "Where You Fit In...," found in The Cornerstone newsletter, or with our online Connect Card. We'd love a chance to get to know you.

Your church seems so big. How can I get to know people?

We know that it can be a bit awkward at first; we're happy to provide some ways you can get a feel for who we are and what we are about, like our New Member Event and Alpha program, or you can make an appointment with one of our staff and talk further. You can e-mail Brodie Taphorn, or call 614-451-3736, ext. 4656.

What about baptisms, funerals and weddings?

Baptisms, funerals and weddings all mark important experiences in our lives, and we're pleased to celebrate and mourn these significant moments with you. Find out more here.

Why the three campuses?

In the mid-50s, Upper Arlington Lutheran Church started in the basement of a pastor’s home. Since then, more and more people have felt drawn to this community as a place to experience God and build relationships with people. Adding communities has been part of God’s plan to accommodate our growth. We are now in three communities: on the Hilltop, in Upper Arlington and the Mill Run area of Hilliard. Who knows where God will grow us next?
