For kids in elementary school, we've got many ways to get connected.
We’ve designed our children’s ministries around your child’s specific phase in life. We love kids and we’d love to be your partner for pursuing healthy growth and faith. Learn how we partner with families during each phase, by downloading our age-specific phase plan for grades: Kindergarten-and-First, Second-and-Third, Fourth-and-Fifth. We recommend many Bibles resources for children to grow in the faith—find the Bibles available for purchase here.

Growth Workshops – Know and Grow Your Faith

Growth Workshops are the fundamentals of following Jesus designed around a child's developmental phase of life. They prepare parents and kids to grow and live in the Christian faith. Most workshops are for parents and kids to attend together. Parents will be encouraged and equipped as the primary former of faith to take it home and live it out with their children. Here are the workshops for elementary school families:
Baptism Workshop (all ages)
A Growth Workshop - offered online each second Sunday of the month
For parents with children of all ages. Learn God’s plan and strategies for passing faith onto children. Hear UALC’s strategy for partnering with families throughout all the phases from birth to college. Prepare for your child's baptism by participating in this workshop. Live online workshops are on the second Sunday of every month, 1:00-2:00 pm or by appointment. Find details, and register here. David White, 614-451-3736, ext 4691.

Following Jesus with Your Elementary Student (Kindergarten & 1st grade)
A Growth Workshop - 1 session, Fall 2020
A workshop designed for parents of students that have started kindergarten or first grade. Elementary school is a new phase of life for your child and we want to help you utilize this time for God's mission and your child. Parents and/or grandparents attend this workshop without their children. Andrea Taphorn.
Family Serve (2nd grade and older)
A Growth Workshop - 1 session
Did you know that serving together as a family is one of the biggest contributors to faith sticking with your child into adulthood? This workshop is just what it sounds like! We start in the UALC Community Garden with a brief family discussion on what Jesus has to say about putting our faith into action. Then enjoy the rest of the workshop serving in a way that feeds people in our neighborhoods. Whole families attend this workshop. Offered at various times during the year. Andrea Taphorn.
Living in a Digital World (3rd grade and older)
A Growth Workshop - 1 session
Designed for parents and their 3rd grade students, you'll find this workshop to be much more than a discussion about living in a tech and info saturated world. You'll walk away with a framework you can use over and over again as your student grows. Children and parents attend together. Older elementary students are welcome. Offered once a year at each campus. David White.
My Bible Beginner (4th grade and older)
A Growth Workshop - 2 sessions, date being rescheduled
Equip young readers for the adventure of reading the Bible on their own. Personal devotions, prayer, and family faith conversations help students grow in their relationship with God. Children attend both sessions on their own during the Kids' Church hour. Older elementary students are welcome. Offered once a year at both campuses. Andrea Taphorn.
First Communion Workshop (5th grade and older)
A Growth Workshop - 4 sessions
Workshops: Sundays, 4:30-6:00 pm at Mill Run. First Communion Service: at Lytham Road
Workshop includes a celebration of a Jewish Seder meal, along with teachings on Baptism and Holy Communion. Students are invited to receive Christ’s gift of salvation while hearing about following Christ and building a personal relationship with him. Concludes with a celebratory worship service where kids receive their First Communion. Typically, fifth graders and parents attend, but older students are welcome. $20 fee for materials and Luther's Small Catechism. Andrea Taphorn
